2022 North GA High School Bass Fishing Seminar

The 2022 North GA High School Bass FIshing Seminar hosted by South Forsyth High School is this weekend, Saturday September 10th, from 8:30am to 1:30pm. This seminar is free for all high school anglers and coaches. It will be held at the auditorium at South Forsyth High School; the address is 585 Peachtree Pkwy, Cumming, GA 30041. 

This free seminar will consist of presentations by each of the following top anglers, each an expert on Lake Lanier fishing. Attendees will be given 15-20 minutes to circulate the speakers’ tables allowing for specific follow-up questions. Over 200+ combined years of fishing experience will be shared! 

The speakers will be the following:

About the Presenters 

Jim Farmer

Jim Farmer is a local tournament angler, former bass and striper guide on Lake Lanier and the former owner of Cast Away Bait and Tackle. Now retired, Jim spent 20 years traveling in the Navy and has fished from coast to coast while in the Navy. Jim transferred to the Atlanta area in 1997 and started fishing Lake Lanier before retiring from the Navy in 2002. Jim and his wife Lisa bought a home on Lake Lanier in 2010 and used it as a weekend getaway before building a custom home on Lake Lanier 3 years ago. 

Jim fishes the lake over 300 days a year and primarily fishes the south end of the lake. Jim maintains a very informative blog and also has a YouTube page with well over 400 very informative videos to help anglers understand our fishery. Jim has spent well over 50 years fishing and enjoys sharing his knowledge with other fishermen.

Jimmy Sanders

Jimmy Sanders is a recreational fisherman who has fished Lake Lanier for 37 years after moving to Cumming, Ga. relocating to the area for work. After retiring14 years ago, he has been fishing the lake approximately 150 days a year in pursuit of stripers, largemouth, and spotted bass. His passion has been centered on spotted bass in the last few years. He does not guide, but enjoys sharing his passion with other anglers with information in his fishing reports on Facebook Lake Lanier Fishing Page and occasionally shares his techniques with on the water instructions. He also helps with seminars with Lanier Baits interacting with visitors and customers answering questions about the Jerk Shad. He enjoys helping others improve their fishing skills.

LJ Harmon

LJ has been fishing locally since the 70's and started drop shot fishing in the 80's. He is known as the "Drop Shot Jedi". LJ, along with his wife and son, Lynn and Cory, run Lanier Baits, maker of the signature Fruity Finesse Worm. He also offers guided services, sonar installation and set up, lessons, and more. LJ specializes in all things finesse fishing. Simply put, it’s a small family business with the goal to help you catch more fish. 

He has a mind for the science of fishing, always thinking about presentation, action, and light refraction. LJ is sponsored by some of the top names in fishing too, like Hummingbird, Triton Boats, Kast King, Minn Kota, and more.

Ken Sturdivant 

Having been an avid angler since the age of 4, Ken Sturdivant has been teaching angling skills learned over 50 years. His method and manner of teaching and instructional skills, has helped propel him into a national limelight. Ken now hosts monthly fishing seminars at the Bass Pro Shops Sportsmans Warehouse in Duluth, Georgia and at the Wal Mart Super Center in Cumming, Georgia. Ken also hosts weekend fishing seminars on the Bass Tub at the Bass Pro Shop location.

Ken is a full time guide on Lake Sidney Lanier. He has been guiding on the lake since 1978 and fishes the lake an average of 200 days a year. He has been fishing the lake since 1956. Ken produces the original Southern Fishing Report on Lake Lanier, Lake Allatoona, and West Point Lake by subscription via a weekly email newsletter.

Phil Johnson

Phil is a Full Time Guide on Lake Lanier as well as Professional Tournament angler with multiple wins and top ten finishes in the Southeast. Lake Lanier has been his home lake for more than 30 years and continues to be his favorite lake to fish. He enjoys working with people of all levels of fishing ability whether it is a beginner or a seasoned professional. Throughout Phil’s career, he has helped parents create great memories fishing with their children, average anglers improve, High School teams develop and tournament anglers prepare for competition. Spotted Bass and Largemouth are his main focus on Lake Lanier, whether it is shallow spring fishing or summer/winter deep structure fishing. Phil also works with people on developing their skills with the various tackle and electronics. He has two rules in his boat. One, don’t hook the Captain; and two, have a great time.

Robert Williams

Robert Williams has been fishing tournaments since he was 16 years old.In his words, “I’ve been very blessed to be competitive.” Rob has been in the manufacturing business of making fishing tackle for about the last 20 years, helping make plastic worms with his dad. For the past three years, Rob has been making Spot Choker underspins, one of the hottest baits on Lake Lanier. Chuck Thrasher

Chuck Thrasher is the owner and design artist of Lip Thrashin’ Lures. His passion is finding new designs that work.  He works long hours testing new lures on various lakes near and far.

Chuck has been making fishing lures since his retirement in 2016 from driving for entertainers. He mostly makes crank baits and swimbaits, however he pours a few rubber baits.
